Scammers try to SIM-swap Dubai citizens hours after Iranian Missile Strikes

4 hours ago    12.38 GMT

Dubai Police have issued a warning about an active scam campaign targeting residents in the immediate aftermath of recent missile strikes affecting the UAE. Financially motivated cybercriminals are impersonating a fictitious entity called “Dubai Crisis Management,” falsely presenting themselves as affiliated with Dubai Police in order to harvest sensitive personal information. The attackers are contacting victims by phone and requesting confidential details such as UAE Pass credentials and Emirates ID information. The objective is to conduct SIM swap attacks, allowing criminals to take control of victims’ mobile numbers.

Once a SIM swap is successful, attackers can intercept one-time passcodes used for mobile banking authentication and gain unauthorized access to bank accounts. Dubai Police have clarified that they never request confidential information, verification codes, or personal credentials via phone calls or text messages. Authorities have urged the public not to share any personal or banking information with unverified callers and to report suspicious activity immediately through official channels. The campaign demonstrates how threat actors exploit crisis situations and public fear to increase the effectiveness of social engineering attacks, particularly those aimed at financial fraud and account takeover.

Target: Applicable to UAE residents.

Mitigation Recommendations:

Members of the public are strongly urged not to share personal or banking information with any unverified party and to report any suspected fraudulent activity immediately through official channels by calling 901 or via the eCrime platform dedicated to cybercrime reports.
